This part of the course covers:

• the collapse of the Soviet Union
• the end of European imperialism
• increasing tensions in the Middle East
• effects of the global war on terrorism

This unit's themes are: a persistent conflict between Eastern and Western political ideologies; decolonization and the decline of Europe’s dominance in world affairs; the move toward European unity; and the legacies of the cultural revolutions of the post-World War II era, which led to the development of the welfare state and an increased focus on racial and gender equality.

For part of this paper you will be summarizing in addition to making connections among ideas.
