This unit's themes are: a persistent conflict between Eastern and Western political ideologies; decolonization and the decline of Europe’s dominance in world affairs; the move toward European unity; and the legacies of the cultural revolutions of the post-World War II era, which led to the development of the welfare state and an increased focus on racial and gender equality.
