Project Management: Initiating

This guide will provide a framework and resources for those faculty and staff that are working on projects.

Four Pillars of Project Management

All projects are based on the 4 pillars of project management. The 4 pillars are:

Scope - What is the extent of the project?
Time - How long will the project take?
Cost - What costs will be included in the project?
Quality - How will you assess the quality of a project?

Initiating

In this phase of project management, meetings are set and information is gathered regarding the project. Three things need to happen during this phase for the project to be successful. These include:

•Writing the project charter

•Securing formal approval for the project

•Identifying all stakeholders
