What is embedded tutoring?

With the embedded tutoring plan, a tutor works in the classroom under the instructor’s guidance to help students understand course concepts and enhance student engagement. The tutor attends classes weekly to provide support to students as they work with class content and texts. Tutors will also work with students one-on-one outside of class.

Our purpose is…

  • To create a collaborative partnership between faculty and tutors to deliver directed contact and support to students
  • To provide students with more attention and connection to learning and the college
  • To build community and relationships so students feel welcome and will return
  • To expose students to tutoring who may not seek it otherwise
  • To provide focused support to students within English courses to increase student success and retention and prepare them for continued academic reading and writing
  • To provide students with more individualized support in targeted areas
  • To provide modeling for students during class learning and activities
