Equity Toolkit User Guide

An Overview of the Equity Toolkit:

The tools here are intended to provide a view into equity and ways of understanding equity mindedness, particularly as they relate to teaching and learning. They are a sample offering of resources and tools developed from a variety of institutions and practitioners focused on equity work, including that of TCC faculty and staff.   

This user guide captures the emphasis of each area included in the toolkit and what might be helpful for users searching for specific content and information. Areas are organized from basic background knowledge to suggested resources for taking a deeper dive into action-oriented equity mindedness in the classroom and beyond.

Tab One: Background

In this tab you will find the background and process TCC used in determining the need for equity initiatives in the classroom and throughout the College. These items include the following.

    • USC Center for Urban Education: Specific Tools used to assess and develop an institutional equity scorecard for TCC.
    • Association of American Colleges and Universities:  A report on what Higher Education can do to support equity.
    • TCC Equity Scorecard: The two-year process and reporting from TCC’s initial assessment to the final report with recommendations.

Tab Two: Basics and Beyond

In this tab you will find several articles to give you a greater understanding of equity, including definitions, theories, and ways to develop a practice of equity.

Tab Three: Classroom Tools

In this tab you will find specific tools and guides that can be used to facilitate equity-minded teaching and learning practices in the classroom. This tab also includes an interdisciplinary voter module designed to guide students in understanding civic engagement and the power of their vote and their voice.

Tab Four: General Resources

In this tab you will find numerous articles, texts, and websites relating to the importance of equity initiatives, including links to TCC’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and TCC developed webinars and programs.

Tab Five: Equity Literacy Institute TCC Course

In this tab you will find five webinars developed collaboratively between TCC’s Inclusive Practice Fellows and the Equity Literacy Institute and packaged as a five-part course. These webinars can count as professional development for TCC faculty.
