Copyright for Faculty & Staff: Course Packs

A focus on copyright issues which may concern TCC faculty and staff -- including fair use, the TEACH Act, public domain and other copyright exceptions and issues. Nothing in this guide is to be construed as legal advice.

When collecting published material to create an anthology for a class, all legal rights to each item (whether in print or electronic form) must be secured.

The use of every article or chapter of copyrighted material in a course packet requires prior permission--either from the copyright holder or through a royalty fee paid to the Copyright Clearance Center.

Each item in a course packet must include a notice of copyright.

All permissions given by the copyright holder to reproduce copyrighted material should be retained on file with the TCC Office of the Dean of Libraries for the duration of time in which a course packet is in use.
